Belgian Model 31 Adrian helmet re-used by Gendarmerie


These pictures show a Belgian M31 Adrian helmet. Re-used by the Gendarmerie.

It's a known fact that many army  M31 helmets were painted black for use by the Belgian Gendarmerie.

I noticed that this helm was painted black manually and I was curious to find out if it was a former army helmet.

In order to figure this out I removed the lionhead and to my surprise I found an emblem painted underneath de lionhead. On the world war helmets forum  Found the origine of the insigna, see:

avant d'avoir ce casque, Je n'avais jamais entendu de gardes wallonnes.
Je savais que beaucoup de casques verts sont peints en noir après la guerre, tu peux voir ça,
en enlevant l'emblème, tu peux voir la couleur d'origine
